WESTON PERFORMING ARTS CAMPS
 
THEATRE ARTS

Youth Theatre Camp (for students entering grades 4 through 8)  PLEASE NOTE NEW START DATE!
Calling all actors, singers, dancers and stage crew!!! This full day musical theater camp gives students the opportunity to participate in all aspects of a full-scale ensemble production including professional sound, lighting, costumes, and sets, concluding with a fully staged production at Weston Intermediate School.  This program is for young performers who are interested in musical theater and children interested in the technical aspects of theater.  This program provides children with a knowledge and appreciation of the theatrical process. Preparation for a production is a team effort and will be a fun experience for all! Auditions take place the first two days of camp.
 
Enrollment is limited and is on a first come, first served basis and a WAITING LIST will be created for students who don’t make the enrollment cut off. For more information on the Performing Arts program and FAQs, click here.

Youth Theatre Camp Counselor in Training (CIT)- (For students entering grades 9-12)  NOTE:  NEW START DATE!
This program is part of our full day theatre camp and is for older children interested in assisting the instructors and counselors with daily camp activities including lights and sound, set design, warm ups, games, etc… For more information on the Performing Arts program and FAQs, click here.

MUSIC
 
Jazz Band Camp (for students entering grades 8-12)           THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN CANCELLED
This half-day music camp will provide intermediate to advanced band students an opportunity to experience making music through creative jazz and improvisation.  A friendly, inclusive approach will accommodate intermediate through advanced students and will develop and encourage the skills necessary to become creative musicians.  In addition to the traditional “big band” music, students will also engage in daily “jam” sessions, explore their individual style, listen to master creative musicians, perform with professional musicians, and much more.  This session is open to guitar, bass, piano, drums, saxophones, trombones, clarinets and flutes.  This is a great opportunity to start playing a second “jazz instrument” in addition to your main instrument. This half day band camp will provide intermediate band students with an opportunity to create music together and prepare for a showcase concert at the end of the week.  In addition to a full band rehearsal with their peers, campers will work with the director in small groups to enhance instrumental performance skills.  Students must be currently enrolled in a school band program and must provide their own instrument. ** Students entering sixth grade will be placed in the appropriate level by instructors.

This half day band camp will provide beginning band students with an opportunity to create music together and prepare for a showcase concert at the end of the week.  In addition to a full band rehearsal with their peers, campers will work with the director in small groups to begin or advance their basic instrumental techniques.  Students enrolling in the school band program for the upcoming year will receive their instrument assignment in June and must provide their own instrument.  Students currently enrolled in a school band program must provide their own instrument. ** Students entering sixth grade will be placed in the appropriate level by instructors.

Digital Music Lab (for students entering Grades 4-8)  PLEASE NOTE NEW START DATE!
This half day camp will accommodate students interested in developing beginning to advanced piano skills and/or students interested in digital music. Using our state of the art digital music lab, children will engage in activities using digital piano software and music sequencing software.  No previous piano experience is necessary. For more information on the Performing Arts program and FAQs, click here.

WESTON TECHNOLOGY CAMPS
 
Innovation Technology Camp (for students entering grades 4-8)
Using various technology tools for video production, such as green-screen and stop motion, 3D printing, game design, computer programming, and traditional tools to explore, construct and discover innovative projects in a MakerSpace environment.
 
Students will have the opportunity to create their own games using traditional board game mechanics. They will create the game board by brainstorming a theme for their game, and creating the rules and game mechanics to play the game. Additionally they will be given the opportunity to create game pieces, using a 3D Printer, to be used to play the games and take home with them.
 
After learning board game mechanics, students will be introduced to the basic concepts of game design and programming, and use the software platform of Construct 2 to create their own games. Each student will build a basic platforming experience, and then build onto it making their own design choices to personalize the player experience. Each student will have the opportunity to take their games home with them to play or continue to work on using the free version of Construct 2 (PC only).
 
Breaks will be taken with supervised outside play and lunch. (Students should bring their own lunch each day).

SITTER SAFETY PROGRAM
 
Sitter Safety(for students entering Grades 7-11)
Be the best babysitter you can!  Learn the skills you need to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants.  This two day class will cover infant and toddler child care, emergency situations, behavior, and will include American Heart Association (AHA) First Aid Certification along with Hands only CPR. Students will be required to do an in-service project and will be contacted by the instructor prior to the start of the program with details.  This program is a great “refresher” course for students who have taken the Sitter Safety program in the past.   Students must be present both days.  There are no makeup classes available.

COOKING
 
International Cuisine Camp (for students entering Grades 4-9)    THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN CANCELLED
Why stop at only one type of cuisine when you can have a taste of the whole world?  Spend the days traveling the world engaging in cuisine from different regions! Our International Cooking camp will teach kids how to prepare delicious and refreshing meals and treats for the whole family. We will take advantage of the seasonal bounty and a three hour long class to make dishes filled with freshness and summer goodness. Hot and cold dishes, soups, fresh fruit, yeast breads, yummy desserts...all of these are possible in our International Cooking camp. Move over Cake Boss because here comes the Bake Boss! Campers will learn how to bake like pros as we master the techniques for homemade breads, pies, scones, cookies, and cakes! Each day we'll learn a new baking skill from cutting butter into flour for pie crusts, kneading dough for sweet breads and buns, and much more!

Robotics using the LEGO® WeDo System (for students entering grades 2-3)  THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN CANCELLED
Build and program robots in this introductory robotics class using the LEGO WeDo system.  Learn basic programming skills, simple engineering concepts, and the names of robot components.  Students will work in small groups to complete several projects using tilt and motion sensors.

Build and program robots using the new LEGO Mindstorms EV3 system.  Learn about mechanical and software design, loops, conditional statements, problem-solving and teamwork skills.  Students will work in small groups, program and build a robot, and control the robot to pick up and carry objects, play sounds, and avoid obstacles. Projects are structured so that students work in an open-ended, investigative environment while having fun.
Note:  Projects will not be going home with children.

For the camper who wants to try it all, this Mad Lab variety camp is for you with the coolest bits and pieces that will make you go scientifically bonkers! It’s one of our new favorites with fast paced experiments, with topics in Laser Light, Electricity, Power and Energy, Che-mystery, and Magnets! Experience FIZZ”-ical Phenomena by stirring up some crazy concoctions, create cool gases, electroplate coins, and make crystals. Dive into electricity by experimenting with Squishy Circuits and mini Van De Graff sticks. Learn about power and energy using robots and solar powered devices. Use lasers to get through a maze. Learn the magic behind levitation with magnets. In this camp, you will certainly become a certified “Mad” Scientist! It’s a camp so great it’s Super-Duper!

Ever wonder how filmmakers do those cool effects in movies? We can teach you how in this cool camp! In this program we pull back the curtain and reveal how stop-motion movie magic is made. Students will work in groups to create special effects from water to fire or even flying! Downloads will be available within a month after the program ends. Lego Flix Camp (for students entering grades 3-7)
Returning to Weston for its third year, Lego Flix teaches children how to make movies instead of just watching them. We know that you love Legos and can create incredible Lego worlds, so now it’s time to bring those worlds to life in Lego StopMotion Animated Flix! We provide the Legos, and you provide your imagination. Students will create a Lego set with Lego characters for a movie they create, storyboard, write, shoot, and voiceover in age appropriate groups. What a fun way to focus on creativity, imagination, and teamwork. And at the end, you and your child will have a movie to remember the experience forever! Red Hot Robots (for students entering grades 2-6)
Red Hot Robots is a junior robotics camp where children will investigate robotic fundamentals while building an ingenious robot that they get to keep! Campers will explore circuits and electricity, robotic sensors, gears and mechanisms, and advanced robotic applications. They will play with various types of robots while exploring their different capabilities. Are robots just toys? How do they solve today’s problems?  In addition to their robot, children will build daily take home projects like mega pinchers, levers and series circuits.
