All programs run from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., unless otherwise noted.
All camps will be held at Weston Intermediate School, unless otherwise noted.
 
 
COOKING AND BAKING CAMPS
 
Summer Cooking Across America! (for students entering Grades 4-8)
Join us for a culinary road trip across America! Get ready to taste your way through our country’s regional flavors as we head on this sweet and savory chef’s adventure. We’ll examine five regions of our country and uncover the vast differences each region has to offer using their summer bounties. Get your taste buds ready as we visit Maine and cook up some chowder, enjoy tacos and avocado salad from Malibu, sink our teeth into barbecue from Kansas City, learn how to cook creole from New Orleans, and who doesn’t love “take me out to the ballgame” stadium eats from New York City? Note: Items used in this program may contain nuts or gluten or may be processed on shared equipment with nuts or gluten. Snack Attack! (for students entering Grades 1-3)
Get ready to learn, cook, eat, play, and create as we connect food and stories in this new one- week camp! We’ll dive into books like Dragons Love Tacos, Everybody Bakes Bread, Mei-Mei’s Lucky Birthday Noodle, among others, and connect the stories to foods like dragon delicious guacamole, cornbread, and warm Asian noodles. We’ll also have fun decorating placemats or make our own creations with recycled food packaging and spend time playing outdoor games with chalk, jump ropes, and balls. Note: Items used in this program may contain nuts or gluten or may be processed on shared equipment with nuts or gluten. We're Cooking Around the World! (for students entering Grades 4-8)
Let’s take your palate on a world tour and enjoy flavorful favorites from each country we visit including homemade pasta, cannoli bites and cheesy garlic bread from Italy, chicken gyro with tzatziki sauce, hummus and homemade pita chips, and baklava from Greece, homemade salsa, guacamole & queso, baked chicken taquitos, and tres leches cake from Mexico, and all American burgers, oven fries, strawberry shortcake, and more from the United States! Bake My Day! (for students entering Grades 2-6)
Join the growing number of kids who love to bake and have some fun with us at baking camp! Kids will learn how to bake like pros as we master the techniques for homemade breads, pies, pizzas, cookies cakes and more! Each day we'll learn a new baking skill from cutting butter into flour for pie crusts, kneading dough for buns and pretzels, melting chocolate over a bain marie for cakes and so on!

SCIENCE CAMPS
 
Snap Circuit and Engineering  (for students entering Grades 3-5)
Create an electrifying summer this year with our SNAP Program camp. Learn about electrons and electricity using the hair-raising Van De Graaff Machine and other fun electric tools. Campers will use Snap Circuit Boards to build simple and complex electronic circuits such as alarms, doorbells, radios, and much more! Campers will get a chance to build and create the code for programmable rovers and take home an award winning robot that they hand built!

Science Potions and Explorations (for students entering Grades 1-4)
Come Fizz, Pop, Boom with Mad Science this summer! We will be testing everything from warm Ooey, Gooey Slime to freezing, cold Dry Ice! In this awesome program, each day we will take you on a journey through hands-on and amazing science! Create crazy chemical reactions that explode and crackle and even experiments that glow in the dark! Piece by piece throughout our program, you will get to put together your own home lab, complete with beakers, test tubes, and all the tools of a great Mad Scientist!

Eureka! Design, Build, and Invent (for students entering Grades 1-4)
Whether your child loves to build things or destroy them, this camp includes lots of both! Bring your imagination and learn that anyone can be an inventor! Discovering the work of Da Vinci, Edison, Tesla, and Benjamin Franklin, campers will invent their own solutions to everyday problems! But the fun doesn’t stop there; campers will have fun working together to brainstorm, design, test, evaluate, and design problem-solving contraptions, build a catapult, and will even construct a geodesic dome big enough for all the campers to sit inside it!

Anatomy Academy  (for students entering Grades 2-6)
Let’s dig our hands inside what is inside of us! Campers will build a stethoscope to become a junior physician and navigate the system in our human bodies! They will get a hands-on exploration of bones, while working together to assemble a model skeleton! Every camper will create MAD Mucus and use micro slide viewers to catch a glimpse of the life of tiny cellular machines that the human body needs to function. This camp is both fun and educational!

KNIT AND CROCHET WITH GABRIELA 
 
Fit to Knit! (for students entering Grades 3-8)
Have you always wanted to learn to knit or crochet? Now is the time! Join the movement of discovering the art of knitting and crocheting and embrace your creativity! Come experience something new! Working on exciting beginner’s projects to learn the basics, projects may include scarfs, headbands, pouches, embellishing flip-flops, dolls, pompoms, and much more!  What a great way to relax, while building concentration and gaining confidence!

SITTER SAFETY PROGRAM 
 
Sitter Safety (for students entering Grades 7-10)
Be the best babysitter you can!  Learn the skills you need to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants.  This two day class will cover infant and toddler child care, emergency situations, behavior, and will include American Heart Association (AHA) First Aid Certification along with Hands only CPR. Students will be required to do an in-service project and will be contacted by the instructor prior to the start of the program with details.  This program is a great “refresher” course for students who have taken the Sitter Safety program in the past. Note: Students must be present both days. There are no makeup classes available.

LEGO CAMPS
 
STEM + Robotics using LEGO® FULL DAY CAMP (for students entering Grades 2-5)
Prepare for a full-day LEGO® camp packed with hands-on and minds-on STEM fun! Build mechanical and structural projects such as Gear Cars, Gondolas, Merry-Go-Rounds, and Scissor Lifts. Then learn about concepts such as basic programming skills, sensors, and robotic components while building robots with the WeDo system! Engineering and Robotics come together in this new full-day camp for LEGO® fanatics! Note:  Projects will not go home with children.

Prepare for a full-day LEGO® camp packed with hands-on and minds-on STEM fun! Build projects inspired by cool machines close to home such as Trains, Helicopters, Treehouses, and Beam Bridges. Then build the hideouts and vehicles of your favorite caped crusaders and learn what makes them not only Super Heroes, but Super Hero Engineers. Engineer and Craft innovative solutions in this new full-day themed engineering camp for LEGO® fanatics!
Note:  Projects will not go home with children.

FILM CAMP
 
Action Stop Motion Flix (for students entering Grades 3-7)
Quiet on the set! Take One! Using stop motion tricks to create fires, explosions, and floods, student’s characters can work together or battle it out to save the day in this action packed stop motion class featuring Roblox and Lego characters. Students will work in small groups to storyboard, create the action, film, and voice-over these exciting movies. Downloads will be available within a month after camp ends.
Note: Movies become the property of program participants who will then have the right to share online. When registering online, please read and sign the release agreement.

THEATRE ARTS

Youth Theatre Camp (for students entering grades 4 through 10)
Calling all actors, singers, dancers and stage crew!!! This full day musical theater camp gives students the opportunity to participate in all aspects of a full-scale ensemble production including professional sound, lighting, costumes, and sets, concluding with a fully staged production at Weston Intermediate School.  This program is for young performers who are interested in musical theater and children interested in the technical aspects of theater.  This program provides children with a knowledge and appreciation of the theatrical process. Preparation for a production is a team effort and will be a fun experience for all! Auditions take place the first two days of this three-week camp.
 
UPDATE: Due to enrollment, this camp will be a Frozen Showcase and not the MTI licensed show.

MUSIC
 
Jazz Band Camp (for students entering grades 8-12)
This half-day music camp will provide intermediate to advanced band students an opportunity to experience making music through creative jazz and improvisation.  A friendly, inclusive approach will accommodate intermediate through advanced students and will develop and encourage the skills necessary to become creative musicians.  In addition to the traditional “big band” music, students will also engage in daily “jam” sessions, explore their individual style, listen to master creative musicians, perform with professional musicians, and much more.  This session is open to guitar, bass, piano, drums, saxophones, trombones, clarinets and flutes.  This is a great opportunity to start playing a second “jazz instrument” in addition to your main instrument. This half day band camp will provide intermediate band students with an opportunity to create music together and prepare for a showcase concert at the end of the week.  In addition to a full band rehearsal with their peers, campers will work with the director in small groups to enhance instrumental performance skills.  Students must be currently enrolled in a school band program and must provide their own instrument. ** Students entering sixth grade will be placed in the appropriate level by instructors.

This half day band camp will provide beginning band students with an opportunity to create music together and prepare for a showcase concert at the end of the week.  In addition to a full band rehearsal with their peers, campers will work with the director in small groups to begin or advance their basic instrumental techniques.  Students enrolling in the school band program for the upcoming year will receive their instrument assignment in June and must provide their own instrument.  Students currently enrolled in a school band program must provide their own instrument. ** Students entering sixth grade will be placed in the appropriate level by instructors

This half day camp will accommodate students interested in developing beginning to advanced piano skills and/or students interested in digital music. Using our state of the art digital music lab, children will engage in activities using digital piano software and music sequencing software.  No previous piano experience is necessary.

Creative Writing through Art, Music, and Mindfulness (Ekphrasis) (for students entering Grades 6-8 CANCELLED
This fun and creative workshop is for young writers who are looking for new inspiration. How can looking closely at works of art spark imagination and inspire writing in a variety of forms? This interactive workshop will use music and art (paintings, photographs, musical excerpts) as inspiration for writing prompts, and as springboards to creativity. Participants will learn and practice techniques for “reading” and interpreting music and visual art. These insights will provide rich material for collaboration, creative written expression, and personal reflection. Creative writing assignments will explore figurative language, sensory description, and dialogue. Writing pads and pencils and access to computer technology will be provided.

WESTON INNOVATION SUMMER CAMPS 
 
Innovation Technology Camp (for students entering Grades 4-8)
Students entering Grades 4-8 will be offered an array of sessions including tabletop game design, digital game creation, 3D modeling and print, and video photography technologies. They will create their own unique projects using these creative tools and techniques. Session examples include:
 
  •    CAD for Kids: Drawing and Printing
  •    Stereoscopic Photography (Session 2 and 3)
  •    Creating Virtual Tours
  •    Game Design
  •    ‚ÄčNarrative Board Game
    •    Advanced game mechanics and game balancing
    •    3D modeling and printing
    •    Prototyping fabrication method
  •    Digital Game
    •    Advanced Construct 2 programming
    •    Game polish
    •    Cross-platform publishing
Students will work both collaboratively and individually to design, test, and develop each project. They will incorporate their own design choices to personalize the player and viewer experiences. All games and media can be taken home to play and watch. Continued work on the digital game is possible using the free version of Construct 2 (PC only).
